A Winter Weekend Escape to Grenada

With daily flights from the US, it seems as though a weekend’s escape to the Caribbean isn’t so farfetched anymore. This guide will help you make the most out of your short stay on the island. With a multitude of amenities on your doorstep, you’ll be surprised by just how much you can fit in.

Book in some Spa time

Post-flight is the perfect time to book a massage. The Spa at Calabash has designed a ‘Sleep Rescue & Jet Lag Recovery’ menu. Indulge yourself in an aromatic warm oil massage. Long connective strokes and gentle stretching are fused to create a powerful sense of well-being. The massage culminates in a herbal foot bath ritual— the perfect antidote after travelling.

Expand your culinary horizons

With three restaurants on site, Calabash offers a diverse array of local produce at its finest. Newly-opened Izakaya encompasses Latin and Japanese inspired cuisine with a carefully-curated menu of fresh local produce with dishes designed to be shared. Rhodes offers a fine dining experience, showcasing the culinary delights of the Caribbean. The Beach Club is elegantly casual beachfront dining, serving lunch, from tapas and salads to fresh daily catch from trusted local fishermen. There is the option to enjoy breakfast either on the beach or on your suite’s private balcony, we encourage you to experience both. If dining out appeals to you, we highly recommend waterfront dining at Sail’s, located on the carenage of the capital St. George town.

Get active

A key part of feeling totally relaxed is having light exercise incorporated into your day. Every Friday morning Calabash hosts complimentary yoga sessions at the Yoga Pavillion, fully immersed in the tropical botanic gardens. If downward dogs aren’t quite your thing, Calabash houses a 24-hour in-house gym and two outdoor tennis courts. Not forgetting of course that Blue Ocean therapy is readily available at any time of day with the inviting Caribbean Sea on your doorstep. On the beach, there are non-motorized watersports including kayaks and paddle boards that are offered complimentary to all hotel guests.

Allow for alone time

Make sure to schedule some time alone during your long weekend. Calabash offers a private beach dinner service so you can feel the sand between your toes with the chorus of lapping waves underneath a blanket of stars. Or perhaps being at sea itself is more your style? The hotel’s onsite watersports center, Scubatech, and Savvy’s, a traditional sailing boat, both offer private sunset cruises.

Be culturally enriched

Every Friday, our Executive Chef Ramces hosts cooking demos at The Beach Club, showcasing the best of Grenada’s produce with techniques and tips that are sure to inspire your culinary skills back home. On Sundays, Desiann hosts tropical fruit tastings, so you can be in tune with the wonder of the island’s diverse flora and fauna. We'd also recommend either visiting the Spice Market in the town of St. George on Saturday morning or visiting Laura’s Spice Garden to see and taste all of Grenada’s fruits and spices in situ.
